Appearance
GENERAL
Principal factors are the ascending degree and planets conjunct the Ascendant, what sign they are
in and what sign the ruler of the Ascendant is placed in.
A planet conjunct the Midheaven, especially when in aspect to the Ascendant, can also affect the
appearance. The Sun sign of course is extremely important too. You should always blend the Sun
sign, Ascendant and Ascendant ruler. Rulers and/or Sun signs in the upper part of the chart
usually add height to the appearance. Racial and ethnic characteristics also have to be
considered. An Asian or Black person will not readily fit these descriptions which were basically
evolved for Caucasian types.
Another helpful factor can be the decanates of the Ascendant and Sun. A stellium of four or more
planets can also change the appearance by emphasizing the sign the stellium is in, even if neither
the Sun nor the Ascendant are involved.
Cardinal types: usually a rather tall and straight body, moderately thin and within that division
Capricorn is the lankiest, Aries more on the scraggy side, while Cancer tends to be medium and
Libra is tall and thin in youth, tending to heaviness in middle age.
Fixed types: mostly have large bodies and are big-boned. The flesh is firm, the shape square with
rather broad shoulders and deep chest. Scorpio is usually the heaviest of the four.
Mutable types: are inclined to round shoulders, often have large hips and except for Pisces are
seldom fleshy. They have oval-type faces and mostly small chins.
Water signs are never thin or slender, there is always a roundness that keeps them from being
skinny. Pisces and sometimes Cancer are rather small with short arms and legs.
Tall and thin signs are Aries, Sagittarius, and Gemini. Long arms and legs with rather large hands
and feet.
Short and thin signs are Virgo and Capricorn.
Nodes near the Ascendant are important. North Node increases height and sometimes weight.
South Node – shorter and thinner. South Node – exact conjunction ASC (within 2 or 3 degrees)
can deny physically.
